Session Planning
A Practical Post-Session Workflow for Game Masters
Use a short repeatable checklist to update rewards, campaign facts, recaps, and downtime after every game.

The best time to update a campaign record is while the session is still fresh. A focused fifteen-minute routine can prevent hours of reconstruction before the next game.
1. Capture the outcome
Write a short factual summary: where the party went, what they accomplished, and which problems remain open. This is working campaign memory, not polished fiction.
2. Finalize rewards
Record monster XP, treasure or spoils XP, currency, and items. If your campaign awards XP from gold, apply that rule consistently. Confirm who received important items.
3. Update the world
Add newly discovered locations and important NPCs. Correct facts that changed during play, such as a vendor moving, an ally disappearing, or a location becoming unsafe.
4. Publish a player-facing recap
Turn the factual summary into a campaign blog entry or announcement. Include the date, major events, and what the party knows. Keep Game Master secrets in private notes.
5. Open downtime
Tell players how much in-world time is available and when requests are due. Review submitted actions, clarify costs, and resolve them before the next session when possible.
6. Prepare the next starting state
Before game night, verify that character gold, XP, inventory, locations, and downtime outcomes match the decisions already made. Players can review the latest information and arrive ready to act.
